Welcome Letter

Students and Families,

Welcome to 2010 – 2011 at Trillium!
I hope this letter finds each of you in good spirits, enjoying time with family and friends and looking forward to the school year. My summer has been a full one, spending time with family, karate training, and working with Jess to find the best middle school math teacher in existence.

I am pleased and honored to be serving as your advisor. For those of you new to middle school at Trillium, I offer a special welcome. I am here throughout your middle school experience to offer support and guidance for all things academic, social, and personal.

The school year begins with an advisor-student-parent conference. We discuss your academic path throughout the next year. We explore what classes might best match passions and growth areas, what challenges you encountered in the past and how we might be able to work through those this year. For new students to my advising this will be a home visit. I will contact you soon regarding scheduling. If you do not hear from me by September 1st it is possible I have the wrong contact information. Please contact me on my cell phone, 503.807.7179, or by email at nina@trilliumcharterschool.org.

You should receive a home packet by mail by September 1st, if not, it will be online or you can contact me. Please complete any paperwork before the visit so that we may have more time to discuss your schedule and needs for the next year. See trillium678.wikispaces.com for any updates, the summer assignment, and needed paperwork.

Our summer assignment posted on our wiki, trillium678.wikispaces.com/summerassignment. This space is where we post important information, assignments, and contact information. It should also be on the back of this letter, if not, please see the above web page.

New to Trillium this year is an amazing talented, experienced, and nice math teacher. Sarah Parnell was above and beyond the best math teacher and wonderful person out of the more than 150 applicants we reviewed. Sarah has several years experience teaching and has worked to design a new middle school math curriculum. Thank you to the students, teachers, and families who helped us by being there for sample lessons during the hiring process.

Also, we have a new part time science teacher who will be teaching physical science to middle schoolers. Katie Hart is pursuing a master's degree in physics education and will be offering two middle school science classes this fall.

I look forward to meeting in the beginning of September with each of you to discuss all of the things that are going to make next year the most rewarding learning experience it can be.

All the best, Nina
