Thanks so much for all of you who sent your student with strong messages of service. We went to St. Francis. We wiped down tables and chairs and packed sack lunches. We did a great job of being respectful despite the often disconcerting actions and words of the mentally ill.

We had some students who were a little alarmed or a little put off by some of the phrases or muttering of the homeless. I've called some organizations and asked to get a guest speaker or some suggestions of books to read to the kids around homelessness. Please let me know if you have any ideas or connections to folks who serve the mentally ill, have a degree to do so, or who work helping the homeless. I'd like the students to be able to ask some hard questions.

The next service day is the 21st of January. The students suggested we get a couple drivers to get us there. If you can help us out in the morning it would just be driving from the school at 9:30 (get there at 10), hang out with us, possibly help me coordinate, and drive back. We'd be back at school at noon.

Please let me know if you can help! January is a cold month for our students and the homeless. It would be nice to be able to help out AND be warm. (Just to clarify I was fine but some of the students were feeling cold).
